Such a pleasure to photograph a beautiful intimate Key West wedding for Beth and Colin that was at iconic Hemingway House where Ernest Hemingway wrote his novels in 1930s.
This beautiful house was built in 1851 in the Spanish Colonial style and was constructed of native rock hewn from the grounds. The home was in great disrepair when the Hemingways took ownership, but both Ernest and Pauline could see beyond the rubble and ruin and appreciated the grand architecture and stateliness of the home. The massive restoration and remodeling they undertook in the early 1930s turned the home into the National Historical Landmark that thousands of tourists visit and enjoy today and The Ernest Hemingway Home is also one of the most sought after wedding and event venues.
The stunning colonial-style estate sits on an acre of property in the heart of downtown Key West. Lush greenery, tropical plants, and beautiful flowers surround the grounds. The gardens create an intimate atmosphere for all types of events.
I'd like to share few words from Beth:
The minute I started browsing through your blog and photo gallery, I felt an instant connection to your work and aesthetic. I love how graceful and intimate your photos feel; your style and approach definitely matches what my fiancee Colin and I are looking for on our wedding day.
A little bit about us and our wedding: we currently live in New Hampshire and have decided to do a small destination wedding in Key West with immediate family only. Both Colin and I are very close to our families, so it's important to us to feel like we can spend quality time with our loved ones and each other on this special day. We love the unique and vibrant energy of Key West, which was also a very special place for me and my mother, who passed away very suddenly last year. My mother was a huge lover of weddings big and small, and she always talked about how excited she was to plan my wedding with me. Even though she won't be with us to celebrate, I hope that having the wedding in Key West will be a tribute to her and the time we spent on the island together.
Colin and I chose the Hemingway Home for our ceremony because we love the lush greenery, the historic significance, the cats (!), and as a fiction writer myself and a lover of Hemingway's work, it just feels like the perfect location to get married. We're planning to do cocktails, dinner and live music under the stars at the Bagatelle Moon Lounge following the ceremony.
Congratulations Beth and Colin and thank you for your trust, it was a pleasure to be a part of your wedding.
