I often get asked this question while my clients planning their wedding, so I made small notes for you.
Everything can be adjusted to your wish and plan.
Q: How many hours do you suggest we set aside for wedding day photo's :
( Ideal Timeline for your Wedding Photos - one Key West location) If you're changing location please add some time for transportation and photography set up. Usually 20-30min from leaving one location to parking and set up in the other.
2hr-2,5hr Getting Ready
Pre wedding photoshoots show you and your partner as you get ready, surrounded by your wedding party or family. You can also do a formal pre wedding shoot before the ceremony, in which a set of elegant groom and bridal photos are individually taken. This time also involves small set ups of all of the essentials you will have on your wedding day ( wedding dress, shoes, wedding invitations, rings, bouquet, boutannaiers, family heirloom jewelery or other important items.
Mostly some candid moments happening while getting ready for a big moment.
30 min The First look
As you may know, this is the moment when the couple sees each other for the first time on the wedding day, before the ceremony takes place.
Traditionally, this is an emotionally charged moment and takes place during the wedding ceremony when one partner walks down the aisle to the other. However, many couples today prefer the first look to be an intimate moment before the ceremony, and include this on their wedding shot list.
( We recommend a First Look for couples with sunset ceremonies when we are loosing a day light really fast after the ceremony . It also means lot more photos and perhaps quiet moment for you two )
30 min Groom Getting ready ( if in the same location as the bride )
( Is your Getting Ready location in the same place where the ceremony will happen? ) If not 10- 25 min driving time is needed
15-20 min Pre-ceremony coverage
This includes photos of your ceremony settings, guests coming in and groom getting ready walking down the aisle.
15-30 min Ceremony coverage
Your big moment!!
30-45 min Formal family photos
( Please calculate 3 minutes for each family formal portrait ) Have a list of pictures that you want with family and friends right after the ceremony. Having a family member that is organized ( and can be louder ) to move people in and out of photo's. This is probably the most important time to move quickly and not to stay on the sun for too long. We suggest organize the family formal list from bigger groups to smaller and from older generations to bridal party groups.
30 min- 1 hour Bride, Groom with different backgrounds, add little more time if we are driving to other location.
( Is the ceremony in the same place as reception? If not add extra 20 min for driving, gear transport and set up)
20min Details Photos of your table set ups, wedding decor and wedding cake alone.
Up to 3 or more hour or more of Wedding Reception Coverage ( Usually - Introduction by Dj, First Dance, Cake cutting, Fun Candid Photos, Celebration)
If you're considering outside sunset ceremonies I suggest to get married at least 1,5 hr before the sun goes down. there is limited time to capture great bride and groom photos and family portraits due to the loss of natural beautiful light after sunset unless the bride and groom are aware that all the photos will take a place in the dark after the sunset with use of a flash and additional lights.
Q: How many wedding photographers do I need?
I work as team with my assistant and second photographer. If you’d like to see how your wedding looks from multiple perspectives, you can consider a second photographer. This will provide you with additional wedding photos while creating an interesting compilation of pictures from various points of view.
Wedding pictures from a second source may offer more candid moments from the wedding party while the primary pro focuses on taking the formal portraits.
Everything can be adjusted to your wish and plan.
